Sophos can be installed on Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10. It can also be installed on Server 2003, Server 2003 R2, Server 2008, Server 2008 R2, Server 2012, and Server 2012 R2.

Step 1

If you already have an antivirus product (such as Norton, McAfee, or Windows Defender) installed on your computer, you should uninstall the existing product before installing Sophos Antivirus. 

To uninstall:

  1. Close any open applications.
  2. Click on Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Program.
  3. Find the antivirus product in the list. Select it and click on Change/Remove.
  4. Wait for it to finish uninstalling, then restart your computer.

Step 2

Download Sophos Antivirus. You will need to log in with your NetID and password to access it.

Step 3

Once the file downloads, close all windows. Locate the file on your desktop and double-click it to start the installation.

Click Run.

If you are using Windows 8 or 8.1, you will see a SmartScreen Prompt. Click the “More info” link.

Click Run Anyway

Step 5

Click Start to extract the files needed for installation.

Step 6

Once the files have been extracted, click OK.

Step 7

Click OK. (There is no user name or password needed.)

Installation will begin.

Installation Complete

The Sophos Antivirus icon is a blue shield, which will appear in your toolbar. Sophos will automatically check for any needed updates.
