Perusall

Perusall is a digital bookshelf that allows users to collaborate and annotate documents together. Instructors can create assignments based on content and students can see each others annotations.

When you link within Blackboard, all students will automatically get accounts and be logged in when working in your Perusall course.

Set Up Perusall and Create Assignments

Add Perusall Assignments to your Blackboard Course

To enable grade sync, create a Web Link for each assignment in Perusall. For each reading assignment you create in Perusall, create a corresponding Web Link in Blackboard. These assignment-specific Web Links should have the same URL (https://app.perusall.com/lti/launch) and “This is a Tool Provider” and “Enable Evaluation” should both be checked.

To link each assignment in Blackboard to the proper assignment in Perusall, make sure that the name of the Web Link in Blackboard exactly matches the name of the assignment in Perusall. To retrieve the name of an assignment in Perusall (Perusall assigns names automatically when you have not explicitly given an assignment a name), select it in the right Assignments panel in Perusall, and then click the “Copy title for LMS” button on the toolbar. The assignment name will be copied to the clipboard, and you can paste it into the Web Link name field in Blackboard.

To test that the assignment linkage works, launch the assignment in Blackboard and ensure that you are taken to the correct assignment in Perusall — you should bypass the course home page in Perusall when clicking on a Perusall assignment from Blackboard.

Instructions:

  • Within a Blackboard Content area, choose Build Content, Web Link.
  • Provide a link name – This must match the assignment exactly. (you can copy this from Perusall)
  • Provide the URL: https://app.perusall.com/lti/launch
  • Click on This link is to a Tool Provider
  • Click Enable Evaluation and provide points for the Grade Center

Note: If using Perusall with a textbook, it is highly recommended that you ask students to use Barnes and Noble bookstore to purchase the textbook code. Contact Barnes and Nobele in advance to make sure that your textbook request is available to students when they need it.
