Our facebook allows us to speak directly with faculty, staff and students through their needs via messaging if they find they are having tech issues. While we do not consider our page to be the “Help Desk”, we consistently strive to accommodate all individuals and direct them to the right source of help.

University IT’s Facebook page has been used to communicate the following:

  • Local and national cybersecurity threats
  • Security tips
  • Security awareness articles
  • Newly released animations within our department related to information security
  • The IT department’s accomplishments and/or contributions
  • “On This Day in Tech History…” posts
  • Throwback Thursday/Flashback Friday tech related images from the University’s history to show how far we have come in our use of technology and give our audience a sense of nostalgia and appreciation for the U of R.
  • IT Center Help location/hours

*Due to social media popularity, we aim to make our UR community aware of our digital presence. During events we give tchotchkes/handouts and even host our annual “phishing contest” where winners are encouraged to visit our page, like or subscribe in order to view the winner.

Like our Facebook page, we use our Instagram page to communicate Information Technology related topics through the form of imagery to raise awareness on cybersecurity. This social media platform gives us the space to post our department’s accomplishments and/or contributions, upcoming events and past archives to show our University’s development over the years.
