This month, the University of Rochester established security standards for mobile devices that University community members use to access the University’s nonpublic information, such as email. These standards apply to all University of Rochester faculty, physicians, staff, students, volunteers, vendors, and contractors.
The standards state that all devices should maintain minimum requirements related to physical protection, password protection, encryption, inactivity time-out protection, proper disposal, and lost or stolen devices. Additional recommendations include invalid password attempts, disabling unused services, remote wipe capabilities, and secure connectivity.
