Julie Myers is the institution’s senior information technology officer. In this role, she serves as a member of the President’s Cabinet. As part of her duties, Myers oversees the Center for Integrated Research Computing and the University’s central IT organization. Myers provides University-wide leadership for the extensive and diverse technology solutions required by a leading research university.
As the primary hub for IT programs and initiatives, the Office of the Vice President for IT engages constituents University wide to ensure that all IT services align with the institution’s missions of teaching, research, patient care, performance, and community service. A key objective is to build collaborative relationships across the University to create integrated, secure and dependable IT systems and practices that support efficient and cost-effective distribution of information across the University community.
Myers joined the University of Rochester in 2006. During her tenure with the University, Myers has provided leadership for multiple major IT projects, including the implementation of an institution-wide Advancement system, implementation of an institution-wide Finance system, replacement of the applications that support Grant Administration, implementation of institution-wide Student and Faculty Information System and most recently, the implementation of modern Human Capital Management and HR systems. She previously served as the University’s first Chief Information Security Officer as well as the Deputy CIO.
Prior to joining the University, Myers exceled in a wide variety of information technology roles including Global IT Director for Architecture, Security and Planning for Eastman Kodak Company and Global IT Director for Procurement solutions.
Myers has a solid background in project management, strategic planning, IT governance, and IT management processes. She has led IT teams responsible for supply chain, purchasing, security, architecture, advancement, finance, and a variety of other areas. Myers is experienced in collaborating with University faculty and peers on projects relating to institutional research and education initiatives that require technology support. She has been at the leading edge of developing ERP solutions including a robust data warehouse and moving to more contemporary services including Data Visualization, modern IT Security services and modern Finance and Student systems. Most recently she ushered inaugural University-wide chatbots Mel and chat.rochester.edu.
As a Senior Technology Leader at the University of Rochester and in the community, Myers is a role model for women technologists, often sought out for career advice and mentoring. Myers leads an organization that recognizes their connection to the missions of the University; she enables opportunities of all kinds by supporting a hybrid work environment; the result is a team that excels in delivering first-in-class IT solutions.
Myers earned an Executive M.B.A. from the University of Rochester’s Simon School of Business and a B.S. in Business Administration, Management Information Systems from the State University of New York at Albany. She is a member of various local and national IT centric committees and user groups.
