James Purvis has been named the University associate vice president and chief information security officer (CISO). James was selected following a national search that involved participation from across the University, including the Medical Center and research organizations. The national search for this position was conducted in partnership with Spencer Stuart, an executive search firm specializing in education, healthcare, and technology.
As CISO, James will report to Julie Myers, the University of Rochester vice president for IT and chief information officer. He will oversee information security and compliance for the University, the Medical Center, and its affiliates, major responsibilities include security operations, data and network security, incident response, vulnerability management, systems management, threat management, and risk management.
With over a decade of experience at the University, James has been instrumental in shaping our information security landscape, technologies, and risk and compliance protocols. He most recently served as the University’s director of governance, risk, and compliance and clinical and administrative information security officer. James holds a Bachelor of Science degree and has earned the Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) and Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) certifications from ISACA.
