The migration of Exchange on-premise email accounts to Office 365 is on track to be completed by the end of the year. University IT aims to decommission the on-premise email environment in early 2016. Going forward, all email and calendaring for faculty and staff outside the Medical Center will be on Office 365.
Having all employee email on a single platform will streamline email support and provide faculty and staff with a suite of online collaboration tools to use. Office 365 includes Skype for Business, which features instant messaging, voice and video calls, online meetings, and other collaboration options.
University IT is piloting Office 365 ProPlus, which allows users to download the latest version of Microsoft Office free of charge on up to five computers or devices, either University owned or personally owned.
Future service enhancements will include OneDrive, which provides up to 1 TB of online storage, and online access to Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Sway.
