Mark Ballister Assumes Enterprise-Wide University Chief Information Security Officer Role

We are pleased to announce that Mark Ballister has accepted the position of enterprise-wide Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), effective August 20th.  The decision was based on a unanimous recommendation from the Chief Information Security Officer Search Committee.

 

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Chief Information Security Officer Search Committee, chaired by Spence Studwell, for their efforts in filling this important position for University.

 

As CISO, Mark will have information security responsibilities for the University and its entities, including the Medical Center and its affiliates.  This includes security operations – data and network security, incident response and vulnerability management, systems management, threat and vulnerability management – business continuity and risk management, and identity and access management.

 

Mark comes to the University from Paychex, where he was the Security Intelligence and Response Manager leading a team of 60+ professionals responsible for cybersecurity intelligence, physical security, secure data transfer, identity management, and security incident response. Mark brings more than 20 years of experience into this role, including 18+ years at Paychex in information security.  He has a Bachelor of Science from SUNY Brockport.
