Is what you’re sharing worth the risk?
Did you know most people have admitted to sharing a password with a colleague, close friend, or family member so they can provide access to documents, subscriptions, or streaming services? But what might seem like an innocent act of kindness can put your sensitive data at risk. No matter how well you trust someone, they can unintentionally compromise your account should they fall victim to a scam or have malware on their device. This can have a snowball effect, especially if you use the same password across other accounts. Bonus security tip: it is best to avoid reusing passwords across accounts.

Shh, keep it down… You’re being too loud!
Are you being mindful when sharing sensitive information over the phone? It’s extremely important to be aware of your surroundings and be conscious of “shoulder surfers”. These malicious bystanders often take advantage of public places and keep an eye out for individuals entering information on computers and their ears open for those discussing high or medium risk data. Putting such sensitive information in the wrong hands can be detrimental to protecting your identity or the workplace.

Prepare yourself for the biggest shopping holiday of the year
Many companies are starting their Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals early this year, giving you more time to shop the hottest items on the market. But this comes with added risks as cybercriminals have more opportunities to deceive you with deals that are too good to be true, lookalike websites, or outright fake retail companies created to scam you out of your hard-earned money or data. The Better Business Bureau (BBB) provides helpful guidance on how to shop safely during Black Friday and how you can protect yourself from Cyber Monday scams. University IT urges you to be extra vigilant with incoming emails or text messages and avoid clicking any suspicious links.
