Installing WordPress
To request a WordPress site under your department’s directory on the central server please email webhelp@rochester.edu. Web Services will install and manage the installation for your team.
The domain blogs.rochester.edu is available for WP installations that are without space provided otherwise.
WordPress Updates
Web Services will perform updates to WordPress core software, themes, and plugins to all WordPress sites on the central server.
WordPress security updates will be installed at the time of release.
All other WordPress updates will be installed monthly. The development environment is updated on the first Monday of every month. The production environment will be updated on the second Monday of every month.
All plugins and themes will follow the same schedule for updates.
Site owners should perform tests on their sites after sites on development are upgraded. If your testing reveals a problem resulting from updates, please email webhelp@rochester.edu by Tuesday at noon.
Custom Changes / Child Themes
All changes to third-party WordPress themes (themes you did not create yourself) should be enacted through a child theme. If not, changes will be over-written when an update is applied to that theme.
Please contact webhelp@rochester.edu to have a child theme directory created for you.
